SHOES BY CRAFT RITE: 9月 2015

This, probably the biggest (or at least one of the biggest) rockabilly and rock`n`roll show so far in Japan, Rough House R&R, was held on September 20th and 21st 2015 in Yokohama, the third biggest city in the land, located 30km (19miles) Southwest of Tokyo.

The show had been absent for some years in the past, and it was the come back and 7th one.

We had a chance to display Craft Rite products there and to talk to people from all over Japan. We appreciate dropping by the booth and had a lotta fun hanging out there.

As far as the entertainment goes, it went pretty good.
The music was running whole time and you could go for a vintage&replica thread shopping spree all the time.

DJs, who are widely known as top rated, played mostly original wax from the 50s. I guess that`s a world trend now. They have been in the scene for a long time and have their own hops in their local town.

The bands were enthusiastically accepted by audiences. Probably 350 rockin` chicks and cats participated each night. (It is pretty large since the scene has been shrinking and getting smaller and smaller, unlike the heyday during the early 80s and the early 90s here.)

Some bands were relatively newer and others have been playing over 20years.

In addition to these bands, there were special guests from USA and UK,
Joe Clay and John Lewis from The Rimshots fame, who have been touring all over the world and been on stage for American and European weekenders repeatedly.

There were some top vintage clothing shops known by dressers and collectors vending here. Their merchandize was moderately priced, even though it was just getting harder and harder to find good items, even in the land of Freedom.

Also Japan is well known for high quality replicas. Consequently, due to the shortage of killer vintage items, purchasing and putting on replicas turned out to be acceptable and is one way to fill the gap when they deck out with 30s,40s&50s styles.

Vending section

50s fashion style and rockabilly music in Japan were introduced and widely spread during the late 70s and early 80s by clothing brands like Cream Soda, Peppermint from Tokyo as well as British brands. And bands like, Stray Cats from NY, Black Cats from Tokyo and maestro Levi and/The Rockats from London/London&USA were quickly picked up as well as original songs from the 50s used on TV commercials and on media. Around the same time, 50s vintage and NOS/Deadstock Style from the States were discovered and introduced by vintage dealers in Tokyo and Osaka. Also, Cream Soda used to deal with vintage threads at one point.

Consequently, Japanese kept buying and collecting so many 50s vintage,,,the reason is, probably, just love for it, with the help of advantages in economical growth and better exchange rate against US Dollars during the early 80s, that we should possess great number of killer pieces here. They might have been worn out, or may stay in somebody's closet yet. Or/And they got deteriorated already, or/and being forgotten in their garage. And/Or they were sold to someone already,,,etc, etc.

Though, both older and younger rockabilly cats in Japan boast quite a bit of collection of vintage. And I would like to show you their stash whenever I had a chance here on this blog. Since we, Craft Rite, replicate "Pre&Post War" and "Golden Era" American style boots and shoes here in Japan toward all over the world.
